Q:  Who can apply for a license over the Internet?

A:  All resident and nonresident applications must be submitted online. Individuals who qualify for landowner elk, deer, antelope or wild turkey licenses must apply online using the landowner application system and the landowner access code.  If a landowner doesn’t have their landowner access code contact the regional office or the game warden in the area where the deeded lands are located.

Q: What will happen if I want to withdraw my application?

A:   Any sportsperson may withdraw their application before the withdrawal deadline. To withdraw an application, go to the Department’s website and log in as you did to enter the drawing. Select “View Previously Submitted Applications” and then the “Modify” button and the “Remove Application from Drawing” button.  If you withdraw your application, a refund will be issued to the credit card used to submit the application, less any applicable fees after the drawing is conducted.

Q: How do I know if my online application was actually received by the Department?

A:   You can check online! After you login to your account you can see submitted applications on your dashboard or click on “View Previously Submitted Applications.” Any application listed there has been paid for and successfully submitted to the Department.

Q: Why can’t I choose some of the applications on the list?  Why are buttons grayed out?

A:   On the Draw Selection Screen, buttons may be grayed out for the following reasons:

                  1.   The application period is NOT open (too early or too late).

                  2.   You are in the “Purchase Licenses” instead of “Apply for Licenses”

                  3.   You have already applied for this drawing.

                  4.   You are trying to apply for a moose or bighorn sheep license you do not qualify for because you received a license after 2018.

                  5.   You are trying to apply for a mountain goat license you do not qualify for because you received a license after 1995.

                  6.   If you added the application to your cart, but it isn’t showing in the cart and the button is grayed out, clear the cache on your internet browser, or change internet browsers.

You can log in to our website and check your dashboard or “Previously Submitted Applications” to see a list of applications you have already submitted.

Q: If I am a youth, how do I apply for the special drawing?

A:   If you are a youth applicant you will apply for the special drawing.  There is no distinction between adults and youth in the special drawing, the fee is the same for all special applications.

Q: What happens if I make a mistake on my application and don’t catch it until my credit card gets charged?

A:  It depends on the type of mistake made on the application.

·         If your mistake pertains to a hunt area or type, you would click on “View Previously Submitted Applications” and then click the “Modify” button and select the application to change.

·         If your change involves a party application, only the party organizer can change hunt areas and types.  Any change made by the party organizer will be applied to all applications within the party.

·         If you applied for the wrong drawing, you will have to withdraw your current application and resubmit a new one.  You will have to remit the application fee and full license fee for the new application.  Your refund for the withdrawn application will be processed after the results are released.

Q: Why can’t I hit the BACK button when I’m submitting an online application?

A:   We disabled the BACK button so you could not accidentally navigate away from the application web page and risk not having your application process as required.

Q: What is the format of the party ID?

A:   The last name of the party organizer plus a randomly generated number.

Q: What does “TYPE” mean on the application?

A.   The number in the type column indicates a limitation for that license. The limitation may restrict the hunter to the taking of a specific sex of animal, a specific season, a specific type of weapon or a portion of the area. If there is no number type opposite the hunt area number, the area is valid for a general license. When applying for a license, be sure to check the limitation and type column following the hunt area. This limitation defines when, where and how that particular license can be used.

Q: How do I change my address on the web without submitting an application?

A:   You may change your address without submitting an application. Log into your account and make the necessary changes on the “Game and Fish Profile” page and select “Continue”.  Once you select continue your information will be saved and you can logout.

Q: What if I have a preference point but cannot find myself on the system?

A:  Call Customer Service to have them help you find your record.  If there is an error in your name, or date of birth fax the change needed to 307-777-4610 or email it to wgfLicenseSales@wyo.gov. The changes will be made on a first-come, first-served basis, but you can check back online in two to three business days to make sure the corrections were made as requested.

Q: What are the advantages of choosing the same hunt area and type for my first, second, and third choice?

A: NONE! In fact, you will waste your second and third choices if you’re not successful on your first choice. Even though the system will allow you to do this, there is NO DRAWING ADVANTAGE for choosing the same hunt area and type for all of your choices. If you are unsuccessful on your first choice for that hunt area/type, you will NOT be successful on your second or third either.

Q: Is there a drawing advantage if I am one of the first sportspersons to submit my application?

A:   No. We encourage sportspersons to apply early simply to ensure there are no errors in the application.

Q: When I click on the Hunt Area Map, I can’t see it very well.

A:   The size of the hunt area map will vary depending on your browser settings and screen resolution size.  Here are some general guidelines:

            1.   If the map is too small, use a browser tool to make it bigger.  Some browsers will let you drag the corner of the box to make it bigger.  Some browsers will show a “zoom tool” that you can use to make the picture bigger.

            2.   If the map is too big, look for scroll bars to help you navigate.

TIP: You can always right-click on the map, and use the SAVE AS to save the image to your computer.  Then, you can open the picture file and find a way to view it better.

Q: Why doesn’t my name and address automatically come up on the “Billing Information” screen?

A:   All information on the “Billing Information” screen has to match the billing information for the credit card being used to pay for the application. The billing information is the information for the last customer’s application added to the shopping cart.

Q: If I am unsuccessful, how do I receive my refund?

A:  All refunds are credited back to the credit card used to submit the application less any fees including the application fee and credit card processing fee.  If the Department is notified the credit card is no longer valid the Department will issue a state warrant through the State of Wyoming Auditors office.

Q: Can I apply for both a license and a preference point for moose and/or bighorn sheep?

A:   Residents cannot apply for license and a preference point in the same year.  If a resident applies and is unsuccessful, a preference point is awarded at the conclusion of the draw.  Nonresident applicants must elect to be awarded a preference point when submitting their moose or full price bighorn sheep application.  Applicants who are unsuccessful drawing a moose or full price bighorn sheep license and elected the preference point option will be awarded the preference point at the conclusion of the draw.  If a nonresident elected to not be awarded a preference point during the license draw, an application for a preference point can be submitted.

Q: Can I apply for both a license and a preference point for elk, deer and/or antelope?

A:  Whether you can submit a preference point application depends on the success of your application in the initial limited quota drawing.  If you apply and draw your first choice license in the initial limited quota drawing, you are ineligible to submit a preference point application for that species for the current year.  If you draw your second or third choice in the initial drawing you can submit a preference point application.  If you don’t submit an application in the initial limited quota drawing, you are eligible to submit a preference point application.  Licenses drawn in the leftover draw have no effect on the eligibility to submit a preference point application.

Q: Do I have a better chance of being successful by applying as a single applicant or a party applicant?

A:   The answer depends on if the draw for your application has preference points.  If there are no preference points your chances are the same whether you apply as an individual or in a party.  If the draw has preference points and the party average of points exceeds your preference point total than your odds would be better in a party application.  However, the odds of all members being successful are significantly better if they apply as a party rather than individuals.

Q: How can I apply risk-free for reduced price licenses in the initial draw?

A:   Many applicants wait to see if they draw a full price elk, deer or antelope license and then attempt to purchase a reduced price license in the field rather than apply for a reduced price license in the initial drawing. These applicants do not want to risk drawing a reduced price license without drawing their corresponding full price license. Wait no more! If you apply for a full price elk, deer or antelope license and want to apply for up to two (2) reduced price doe/fawn deer, doe/fawn antelope or one (1) cow/calf elk license without risk, then check the withdrawal block for the applicable reduced price license(s). This will ensure that if you are unsuccessful in the full price license drawing(s), you will be withdrawn from the reduced price license drawing(s).

Q: What is the difference between a full price antlerless elk license and a reduced price cow/calf elk license?

A:   Biologically, these are the same animal. The price is the difference. The term antlerless elk is used to identify the full price license and the term cow/calf elk is used to identify the reduced price license. All reduced price licenses have a type 6, 7 or 8 designation. Not all hunt areas have reduced price licenses; however, some areas have both full price antlerless elk licenses and reduced price cow/calf elk licenses. The type number is the key to determine if a license is reduced price or full price. If it is type 6, 7 or 8, it is reduced price. Any other type number indicates that it is a full price license. You do not have to have a full price license to apply for a reduced price license. However, a person may not harvest more than three (3) elk during a calendar year.

Q: What is the difference between a full price special elk, deer or antelope license and a regular full price license?

A:   By paying the additional $1,258.00 for elk, $826.00 for deer and/or $874.00 for antelope, the applicant can participate in a separate random drawing. Wyoming statute allocates 40 percent of the available nonresident elk, 40 percent of the available nonresident antelope and 40 percent of the available nonresident deer licenses to applicants who pay the higher price. The expectation behind this is to increase drawing odds due to fewer applicants paying the higher price. However, this is not always the case. To evaluate drawing odds from the previous year, an applicant can purchase a demand index summary or view the information free on our website. Odds can vary substantially year to year. There is no guarantee of success in the drawing for special licenses.

Q: Can a youth applicant apply in a party of special elk, deer or antelope?

A:   Yes, but the youth applicant must pay the full price special license fee.

Q: Can an applicant apply for both a full price regular license and a full price special license?

A:   No. An applicant must apply for either the full price regular or the full price special license.
